A slideshow of photos I took during my first visit to Ballycullane in County Wexford on Tuesday 11th August 2020. Ballycullane (Irish: Baile Uí Choileáin) is a village located in the south-west of County Wexford. The village had a population of 318 people in the 2016 Census. Ballycullane has a Catholic Church, a primary school, a garda station, a shop, a filling station and a pub. Ballycullane Railway Station opened in 1906 when the Waterford-Rosslare railway line opened. Sugar beet freight trains used to pass along this line from Wellingtonbridge until the closure of the Mallow Sugar Factory in 2006. The boat trains from Cork used to travel to Rosslare Harbour and were popular before the advent of low cost flights. The passenger train service on this line was greatly reduced to only one train from Rosslare to Waterford in the morning and one train from Waterford to Rosslare in the evening. It operated Mondays to Saturdays. The rail service ceased after the passage of the evening train on Saturday 18 September 2010. The railway line is still there. Bus Éireann route 373 serves Ballycullane on Tuesdays only. St. Martin's Church was built in 1840, and was extensively renovated in 1971, giving it a more modern appearance. Ballycullane is part of the parish of Tintern in the Diocese of Ferns. St. Leonard’s Football Club in Ballycullane was founded in 1972. The local GAA Club is Gusserane O'Rahilly's in the nearby village of Gusserane.
