I know the Imperial 7s are the ignored stepchild of the speaker world, the crossovers are a mess it was a marketing speaker that could not play with its JBL100 target ect. Now lets get down to what's also true. Thousands of 20 somethings went into the Pacific Stereo's listening room with their favorite album listened to a bunch of speakers and walked out quite happily with Imperial 7s. Many here love the Imperial 6s (or if they could find one the 8s) but they had to sell off the 6s at a loss, not the 7s. They landed in dorm rooms, basements and other pot smoked filled rooms and left a lot of good times behind. It was considered the west coast sound, an undefined thing that represents how we first heard many of the albums in our salad days. I don't listen to music an a neutral room, I have a bit if tinnitus and some loss in one ear so I'm not too concerned with "roll-off" at this point. I found a completely clean pair of 7s, perfect veneers new cloth covers. I re-capped, sealed the cloth surrounds, re-foamed the mids, found a guy on Ebay selling "new" or at least unused original tweeters for $14 so changed them out. I put on a bit of Diana and Marvin and the hair stood up on my neck it sounded so good, I'll skip the meters that should tell me my mids and tweeters are walking all over over each other. They spark the exact neural grooves first laid down in those dorm rooms 50 years ago. They are from an era where teens and twenty somethings bought speakers based on what sounded good and they could afford (which is fine with me). When you hear them they will bring you back to the way you heard most albums the first time. They make you happy, my definition of a great speaker. Get a pair bring them back to life they are cheap, you'll love them if you want to own some vintage audio on the cheap and enjoy that west coast sound again.
