Dragon Dog 2021: Mei Han 韩梅 & Randy Raine-Reusch 雨苇, on zheng 筝.

As Mei and Randy began working together they soon found themselves falling in love with each other. Yet there was a problem. Their Chinese astrological signs were extremely incompatible saying they were two volcanoes waiting to happen. So they channeled all that volcanic energy into their music together and the result was Dragon Dog. To commemorate their 20 years of marriage they haver released a recent recording of this piece. This piece is improvised around a structural frame. Originally created as a zheng duet but was first recorded by Mei, Randy', and Laurence Mollerup on bass for the CD Distant Wind (ZaDisc). Vancouver composer Mark Armanini made an arrangement for symphony orchestra that Mei and Randy performed with the Calgary Symphony. Armanini also made an arrangement for Mei, Randy and the BC Chinese Music Ensemble, that was released on the CD Bamboo Shoots in Spring (https://bccme.bandcamp.com/).
