Written on Christmas Day, 2018, this carol celebrates the coming of the Lord with words that reflect on the mystery of the Incarnation. The actual development of this hymn began in August of that year (I think) with a different opening melody and the first verse as it appears. I half-laboured through the harmony until something struck in December of 2018. What started out as an attempt to finally close the chapter on yet another Christmas carol idea turned into 12 hours of overnight inspiration that ended with a 12-verse ballad telling the story of Christmas in a slightly unique way. I particularly enjoyed the personification of the Star of Bethlehem, and the Marian twist toward the end of the story. Recording the entire work proved difficult. Earlier in December this year, 7 years after the original work was done, I added a fitting concluding verse to wrap it up neatly. That is how this 3-verse recording ends. Big thanks to Vincent Agbeko for leading the rehearsals, Aurelia Dowlings and Ida Agboado for joining in this recording, and to Reynolds and Emmanuel for the assistance they provided. Enjoy this abridged version recorded at St Bakhita Parish, Lashibi. Merry Christmas! 🎁
