Part 2; from Ospizio Bernina to Cavaglia Part 1 is here:    • 084 RHB Berninabahn Summer 2005 (1) from P...   In 2005 the REOS team visited the Berninabahn in the Southern Switzerland. The line was completed on 5th July 1910 and trains only ran during the summer months between St. Moritz and Tirano. Trains ran on 750 volt DC until 1935 when it was changed to 1000 volt DC which is still used today. The line was almost bankrupt when it merged with the Rhatischebahn in 1944. The RhB renovated the line to provide a winter service as well as for military reasons. With a 7% grade it is one of the steepest adhesion lines in the world and with a height of 2253 above see level it is the highest railway crossing in the Alps. The line was added to the Unesco list of World Heritage sites on 7th July 2008. REOS filmed the line from Pontresina to Cavaglia extensively with long pan shots of complete trains as well as views of bridges over the wild mountain rivers, stations and the spectacular curves provide surprising views of the line. There is a great variety on rolling stock resulting in fantastic coverage of this special line during typical Swiss mountain weather.
