Arrangement for SATB choir, not yet performed (I'll reupload with a proper recording if one gets made). About this arrangement: This one was a challenge for a couple of reasons. First, unlike most traditional tunes, "Óró" doesn't have contrasting A and B sections; the A sections are the verses and the B sections are the choruses, but both use the same melody. And second, the song is very short. At any reasonable tempo, you can get through the whole thing in about a minute and a half. Neither of these is a problem for trad musicians, who can perform it as part of a longer set incorporating other tunes, but it's a problem for me: I can't slow the tempo down very much without sapping all the life out of it, and I can't reprise verses or double up the choruses because then the lack of contrasting A and B sections will start to wear on the listener's patience. I found a solution on thesession.org, where some users had hit upon the idea of repeating the melody a fifth higher as a B section. This allowed for a three-part structure of verse, chorus, super-chorus, something used to great effect by one of my teenage self's favourite bands, Muse. Elsewhere I tried to score it like a battle scene from a film; sudden key changes and punchy accented lower chords, like something Jerry Goldsmith might have done.
