How I Got Into the Most Prestigious, Dangerous Big Wave Surfing Event in the World! The 2024 Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational at Waimea Bay was absolutely insane! Huge waves and some of the biggest I’ve ever seen were rolling in as the best big wave surfers in the world came together to honor the legendary Eddie Aikau. The energy on the beach was unreal. Waves over 50 feet high crashed into the bay, and the surfers were like warriors out there, taking on these massive walls of water. There were psycho rides, crazy wipeouts, and moments that made everyone on the beach gasp. Landon McNamara stole the show, becoming the first goofy-footer to win the Eddie with an epic drop that scored a perfect 50 points. He said it best: "Eddie picks a winner, and I’m so grateful he picked me." The event wasn’t just about the competition it was a tribute to Eddie Aikau’s legacy of bravery and connection to the ocean. Being part of this event felt like a dream. The Eddie only happens when conditions are perfect, making it rare and incredibly special.
