This week on our Australian homestead, things didn’t exactly go to plan. Rob managed to break the excavator right on the edge of our dam — just as heavy rain is forecast across our small farm in Queensland. With more than 150mm predicted, we suddenly had to think fast about farm machinery, flooding risks and what needed attention before the weather turned. At the same time, our cattle are running low on grass, so we’ve been working on fences and pasture management to move the cows onto greener paddocks. Learning how to manage livestock on a small Australian farm is definitely part of the journey. And in the middle of it all, we welcomed the newest member of Mango Ridge Homestead — a black gelding horse named Shaddow. From broken farm equipment to moving cattle and bringing home a new horse, this is real rural life in Australia as we continue learning how to run a homestead with no prior farming experience. We’re building our small farm one season at a time — figuring out homesteading, livestock care, pasture rotation and country living as we go. If you’re interested in Australian farm life, beginner homesteading, small acreage living or rural family vlogs, welcome to Mango Ridge Homestead 🌿 #australianhomestead #FarmLifeAustralia #SmallFarm #RuralLiving #HomesteadingAustralia
