Winter Camping In The Countryside - Cooking Over Open Fire - Brösarps Backar & Haväng - Sweden

Finally a winter camping! A few weeks ago we had the year's first full day of sunshine here in Skåne, in south of Sweden. I immediately took the opportunity to go hiking. I have received several tips about hiking the Skåneleden and Backaleden at Brösarps Backar and out to the sea at Haväng – so I grabbed me gear and took the car a couple of miles south. For me this is a different kind of hike. Then I was walking in the countryside near the settlement this time. Open landscapes, narrow forest paths, old wooden houses, beautiful streams, went by a vineyard, uphill and downhill, to the blue sea and finally I took a detour into the beech forest to pitch the tent for the night. Despite the sun, it was somewhat damp, chilly and windy. When I set up camp and got the tent up, it was really nice to be able to warm up my body and mind by the open fire. It became a real challenge to get the fire going. In the area where I set my camp there was hard to find good firewood and especilly small and dry twigs to begin with. Everything was damp and icy. So I was really grateful once the fire came to life. The sun sets early and the fire is needed to keep me warm for several hours before bedtime. Besides the fire being a source of heat, I cooked good food by the fire I made some haloumi, bacon and bell pepper on the open fire, which together with lettuce became a nice mix in my flatbread. The temperature dropped down to six degrees below zero during the night. The moon and the stars kept an eye on me from a distance. I didn´t woke up by the cold, but instead of a group of wild boars grunting and bleating nearby. I immediately felt vulnerable, as I lay huddled in my tent. I started to talk loudly and played some music from the mobile phone then slowly the wild boars took another direction and disappeared. I woke up to an outstanding sunrise. For breakfast I had some boiled eggs on a sandwich and hot chocolate before I started the hike back to the car. It went out to be a fantastic trip and now I'm longing for the spring to come.
