Face to Face with the Master - Comparing a Macchi and a Master Cello

This time I would like to show you the difference between two kind of instruments I make here in my Cremona based Violin (Viola-, Cello- and Doublebass-) workshop. I love to make my master instruments. And of course the more time I dedicate to an instrument the better it becomes. But I have to admit that since I started I found it very challenging to create as well a lower priced instrument that works very well, including all my trade secrets. Here You can hear two cellos. The first one is a Linea MACCHI, Stradivari model. It is made in my workshop together with violinmakers who I have carefully selected to work here with me. I appreciate their daily effort to give the best. Linea Macchi is a Cremona handmade Instrument. I explain, show, and supervise. My aim is, that this kind of instruments becomes as good as my master made instruments. The second Cello you can hear is my master made Cello. It is a Copy of the Andrea Guarneri Cello. I love it for the rough style. I love it for the toolmarks, high arching, happy shaped F holes, very unsymetric body, long pegbox, narrow scroll with 2 and a half turns and its deep brown varnish. I love it for it´s positivity I feel from the first time I saw it. Sound wise this large but not too long body is perfect for our todays sound Idol. A short body like the Montagnana or the Ruggeri shaped cellos give a big powerful and nice rolling C string; and still the A string is perfect focused, not screaming but has everything that you have the impression that there is no limit. On my master instruments I use only my home cooked :) oil varnish. Thank you for your attention!
