On the 13th October 2018 Adelaide expanded its tram network by opening two brand new extensions in the city. The first extension along North Terrace saw three new stops constructed at Art Gallery, University and the new terminus at Botanic Gardens. The second extension along King William Road saw a new stop built at Festival Plaza. In this video we see various Bombardier Flexity Classic and Alstom Citadis 302 trams on the new extensions, starting with the Botanic Gardens extension where we see trams at all three stops along the line. We then see a Flexity Classic using the Festival Plaza tram stop. The opening of these new tram extensions has necessitated the splitting of Adelaide's previously single tram line into multiple routes. Trams to Botanic Gardens run all the way to the Entertainment Centre, while trams on the main Glenelg route now terminate at the Royal Adelaide Hospital with only some peak hour services running to the Entertainment Centre. However on weekends every second tram on the Glenelg route heads to Festival Plaza. Unlike most tram stops in Adelaide, Festival Plaza is only open on weekends or when special events are on at the nearby Adelaide Oval. Date: 30th December 2018.
