Searching for the historic Welch Spring Hospital Ruins, a destination that I stumbled upon as a kid on a kayaking trip. Revisiting this location to capture the wonder and mystery I experienced that day! In this video we spend the night sleeping at our secluded camp in the middle of the Mark Twain National Forest, doing our best to keep warm on a cold winter night. In the morning we go searching for the Welch Spring Hospital Ruins, a point of interest and historic site located along the Current River in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Welch Spring is home to the remains of a 20th century stone facility built in 1913 by Dr. Diehl, who believed the spring's clean water and cool cave air could help people with respiratory illnesses. After failing to attract visitors due to its remote location and rough roads, the hospital closed and was abandoned following Dr. Diehl's death in 1940.
