Strategic Analysis Australia Director Michael Shoebridge reveals the “real truth” behind Australia’s hesitation to answer the US Navy’s request for a warship in the Red Sea. The request comes after the Houthi rebels’ recent attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea. “The real truth here is we don’t have a ship to send,” Mr Shoebridge told Sky News Australia. He described the lack of naval resources as a “bit of a scandal”. “We’ve got 11 major surface ships, eight of them are old ANZAC frigates – none of them are really right for this mission because they’re not able to really deal with cheap armed drones,” Mr Shoebridge said. “It’s an embarrassment that we don’t have a single ship that our navy can send, and it’s an excuse that it’s all about the region.”
