Alongside the Höllentalklamm , it is the deepest gorge in the Bavarian Alps and the deepest rocky gorge in Central Europe . Every year around 300,000 visitors embark on the 2.5 km long hiking trail through the gorge. The Breitachklamm is closed for several weeks in spring and autumn. During this time, rock clearing and repair work will take place to ensure the safety of visitors and employees. The Breitachklamm was converted to one-way operation as part of the Corona measures. The inner part of the gorge can only be accessed from below. The Breitachklamm has been designated as a geotope by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment .
