London Bridge, London Eye, Big Ben and lots of other touristic places always stand on the top of the list when it comes to visiting London, but people should get a little bit creative and visit other places which lots of people might not think about. We have a suggestion here which is the HMS Belfast that is located in London for visitors to visit. HMS Belfast is the most significant surviving Second World War Royal Navy warship that is located in London, just beside the Tower Bridge. HMS Belfast gives the visitor the permission to go through all the nine decks of the ship and discover the life of the crew on board back them during the time of war. HMS Belfast was launched back in 1938 and since that time, it has been serving in both key battles and peace making duties across the world. This Royal Navy warship played a key role in the Arctic Convoys, the Battle of North Cape and D-Day, which was the last time for the ship to fire its guns in anger in the European waters. HMS Belfast also served several commissions in the Far East and is considered one of the first British ships to go to action in the Korean War and it also worked closely with Allied forces where it gained the reputation as "that straight shooting ship". HMS Belfast was also the warship that oversaw the escape of HMS Amethyst. Taking a tour on HMS Belfast is interesting because you will be allowed to go through the nine decks of the ship and know more about the history they carry and you will also get to know real personal stories about the crew who used to be part of this ship back in time. We recommend that you free at least 90 minutes from your day if you are planning to visit the HMS Belfast in London, because less than that might not give you all what you need from information and you will find yourself going in a hurry through what the place has to offer. There are some points to handle here which are related to HMS Belfast and the battles and wars it have gone through. HMS Belfast is actually one of the only three remaining vessels that survived the bombardment fleet which supported the Normandy landings on 6 June, 1944. HMS Belfast was also the flagship of Bombardment Force E, supporting troops landing at Gold and Juno beaches. As big as this ship was, one of the things that not all the people know about at this moment is that HMS Belfast treated casualties on board, it was one of the largest warships in the fleet with a fully equipped sick bay, a surgeon commander and two surgeon lieutenants. There are lots of interesting things related to the history of HMS Belfast that would make it a good idea to visit it and have a tour inside to see how this huge ship passed by wars, has taken its role in them and how it survived all these events to live until today and welcome thousands of people who come on board to hear more about these different stories carried inside. HMS Belfast was the first ship in the Royal Navy to be named after the capital city of Northern Ireland and one of ten Town-class cruisers. The launch of this historical ship was back in 1938 on St. Patrick's Day, which is one of the important religious celebrations and holidays in Northern Ireland ( • St. Patrick's Day in Belfast - Northern Ir... ). If you are touring the city of London and trying to find different attractions that you could visit in the city apart from those which are usually referred to and mentioned, HMS Belfast is one good historical place that will bring you back home with loads of information - some people spend there almost half the day touring around the place, exploring the historical stories and sometimes even have a break at the on-site cafe that let them complete their historical journey once again.
