While everyone up north is working on their tans, the Heli team is still dreaming of deep powder. So we headed south to Chile to chase a 24-inch storm and explore the skiing scene. Along the way we linked up with our operator partners, ate incredible carne asado, drank world-class wine, and met some of the most welcoming people you’ll ever find. The Andes, running along the border of Chile and Argentina, are a heli-skiing mecca. Jagged, raw, and seemingly untouched by time, this 5,000-mile range delivers dry powder, sunshine, and single runs as long as 6000 feet. This high alpine terrain offers seemingly endless untouched runs waiting to be skied. The views from the summits alone are worth the trip. Local culture and cuisine make the experience even more unforgettable. From spit-roasted lamb to flakey empanadas to wines shaped by sea air and the dramatic Andes themselves, it’s hard to decide what’s better—the food or the skiing. As we explored the area, a massive storm brewed over the mountains. We visited Valle Nevado, Powder South, Andes Heliboarding, and one unexpected Chilean heliski destination that completely surprised us.
