Led by trumpeter Tomos Williams, Burum is a jazz quintet with a difference; on this tour, Burum will be joined by Delhi based, Berklee graduate Aditya Balani on guitar with a rhythm section comprising Dave Jones (piano), Aidan Thorne (bass) and Mark O'Connor (drums). The band’s repertoire is drawn from Welsh traditional music, adapted and re-imagined for a modern jazz quintet. Burum's music fuses a deep respect for the original folk melodies themselves with the flexibility and dynamics of jazz improvisation. Burum toured India successfully in March 2014, playing Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Goa and have played at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC, and at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany. Burum also played the Brecon International Jazz Festival – Wales's premiere jazz festival in 2014 and have been called "a Welsh jazz supergroup". Burum includes some of Wales's most creative jazz and folk musicians: mixing these ingredients together creates the unique and extraordinary band sound that is Burum.
