A meth lab explosion leaves a Clarksville apartment building under quarantine. The blast seriously injured one man and left three other families homeless for the holidays. From the outside, it's obvious this was a powerful explosion. There are damaged windows and a blown out section of siding. Inside the Lexington Drive building it's even more startling. Officers say a 22 year old man was burned on his face and upper body when the meth he was making in apartment D exploded. "Appeared to be on drugs. He had drug paraphernalia laying everywhere, glass pipes," says Jesse Reynolds, director of the 19th Judicial Drug Task Force. The 19th Judicial Drug Task Force is now investigating the case. It's the latest in a number of similar incidents across Middle Tennessee. Another explosion in September seriously damaged an apartment building in Madison. "More and more people are cooking meth right now because it's so easy to get pseudoephedrine. It is so easy, anybody can go get pseudoephedrine right now," says Jesse Reynolds. Although the explosion was confined to one unit, it's having consequences for the three other apartments next door. The chemicals in the air, require the building to be quarantined. The family in apartment A has a one and two year old. The red cross is working to help them. "They're pretty much on their own here, just a young couple trying to make it," says Connie Branchau with the Clarksville/Montgomery County American Red Cross. The mother was wrapping Christmas gifts when the explosion happened. All of the children's presents are now contaminated. "They still are not able to get any of the belongings out of their house because of the chemicals," says Branchau. The three displaced families are in the military. The man in apartment C is currently deployed to Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the Drug Task Force is lobbying for a change. They believe pseudoephedrine should be available by prescription only in hopes of preventing another disaster. While the 22 year old victim recovers in Vanderbilt's Burn Unit, authorities are building a case against him. They have not released his name. It's very likely he'll be charged whenever he's released. If you'd like to help the military families who were displaced by this explosion, you can contact the Clarksville Montgomery County Red Cross. _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: WZTV on Facebook: / foxnashville WZTV on Twitter: / foxnashville Subscribe to WZTV on YouTube: / @fox17nashville Daily News Playlist: • Плейлист For more information, visit https://fox17.com/ Have a news tip?
