July 2025, Monaco Much-loved actor and writer Carol Drinkwater visits the Princess Grace Irish Library in Monaco and chats with Director Paula Farquharson. After their podcast The American Club of the Riviera invited Carol for a literary luncheon to talk to an international group from Monaco and the Riviera. Carol spoke about her latest book, her work as an actor and a writer, her life in the south of France with her husband film-maker Michel Noll on their olive farm over the last 40 years and how it all began and continues - with a love story on many levels! In the podcast Carol and Paula discuss Carol’s latest novel published by Atlantic in July 2025 titled ‘One Summer in Provence’, a story of betrayal and belonging, and of discovering love in unexpected places. They also talk about: • recent literary events in Ireland that Carol has participated in this summer : most recently the West Cork Literary Festival held in Bantry and in May & June 2025 another prestigious festival, Ireland’s oldest Literary and Arts Festival - the Listowel Writer’s Week in county Kerry where Carol was an adjudicator along with Paul McVeigh for the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year award, which was bestowed on Irish writer Niall Williams. • Carol expands on her comment in The Irish Times in July 2025 when she described herself as Irish-Mediterranean rather than British. Her mother, Phyllis McCormack was county Laois. • An invitation from UNESCO asking Carol to help create an Olive Route around the Mediterranean based on her experience and expertise. She has recounted her life in her memoirs, The Olive Farm Series, which have sold over a million copies worldwide, while her solo 17-month journey round the Mediterranean in search of the olive tree's mythical secrets inspired a five-part documentary film series for ARTE TV and France 5 The Olive Route. • A spin-off topic includes a comparison of the world that Grace Kelly experienced when she married and the very different, parallel world in Ireland in the 1950s. Carol started her career as an actor and her talent has won her multiple awards for her TV work and documentaries. She is widely remembered for her portrayal of Helen Herriot in the BBC television series All Creatures Great and Small. Her books - some of which are historial fiction and others based on her memoires - are hugely popular and have sold millions of copies.
