This is the fourth part of a six-location adventure where we track down Tunisia's hidden original Star Wars film sets in the south of the country. Today we are visiting three sites on the island of Djerba: Tosche Station, Mos Eisley Cantina & Obi-Wan Kenobi's House. Our first site is at the Sidi Jemour Mosque complex on the western coast of Djerba. The mosque represented Tosche Station in a scene that was deleted from the final cut of Episode IV. Filming here took place on 4 April 1976. Tosche Station was basically a run-down power supply station on the outskirts of Anchorhead (a small town on Tatooine). Amazingly, I managed to meet some fellow Star Wars fans here who had flown all the way from the USA! Here is the deleted scene: • Star Wars 1977 Tosche Station Deleted Scene Our second site is Mos Eisley Cantina, just outside Ajim in the south-west of Djerba. The buildings here were used as a film site for Episode IV's Mos Eisley street scenes on Tatooine. The streets around this building also feature as a location for Luke’s landspeeder and a Stormtrooper patrol as the Millennium Falcon escapes from Docking Bay 94. Filming here took place in early April 1976. This site has a ceramic tile mosaic of a Stormtrooper by French urban artist Invader. Our third and final site is Obi-Wan Kenobi's House, a few kilometers up the western coastal road from Ajim. This ancient mosque-turned fishing hut was filmed as the exterior for “Old Ben” Kenobi’s home on Tatooine for Episode IV. Filming here took place on 5 April 1976. This site has a ceramic tile mosaic of a Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi holding a lightsaber by French urban artist Invader. Thanks to Galaxy Tours for all this information about these amazing filming sites!
