This is Chapter 6 of A Confession by Leo Tolstoy in Audiobook form, translated by Aylmer Maude, read by myself (Tasman). Leo Tolstoy (1828 - 1910) was a Russian Author who is often regarded as one of the most influential Authors of all time, he has certainly had a great impact on me. A Confession was written in 1879 - 1880 and published in 1882. At the point of writing A Confession, Tolstoy had already written likely his two most famous works (War and Peace and Anna Karenina), but from around this time - at a peak of Tolstoy's success and recognition in Russia - he began to have a profound existential and spiritual crisis. A Confession is (from my understanding) the first non-fiction work where Tolstoy details this personal experience of his, and although he had already explored many of these similar themes in previous works, it appears that this book marks a change in the direction of his writings from then on, towards a path of deep spiritual exploration.
