Musculocutaneous Nerve Spinal Nerve Roots Levels C5, C6 & C7 Terminal branch of brachial plexus Motor innervation of anterior compartment of upper arm: Brachialis, biceps brachii & coracobrachialis. Sensory Innervation: Gives rise to lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm which provides sensory innervation to lateral forearm. Arises from lateral cord of brachial plexus, therefore contains fibers from cervical spinal nerve roots C5, C6 & C7. After originating from brachial plexus, the musculocutaneous nerve leaves axilla & pierces the coracobrachialis muscle, near its insertion on humerus. It then passes down the arm, anterior to brachialis muscle but deep to biceps brachii, innervating them both. The musculocutaneous nerve emerges laterally to the biceps tendon & continues into forearm as the lateral cutaneous nerve. It provides sensory innervation to the lateral aspect of the forearm.
