Introduction from How to Set Up Your Own Driving School

Welcome to SetUpDrivingSchool.com You've come to the right place if you are having any thoughts about becoming a qualified Driving Instructor - also known as an Approved Driving Instructor, which you will also see written as ADI. So from here on in you will see me refer to Driving Instructors as ADI's as its easier to write on a regular basis! Just to give you a bit of background on myself, and to reassure you that I speak with experience.. My name is Tracy and I have been working full time as a Self-Employed ADI for 12 years almost to the day - I started trading in April 2006. I decided to have a change of career - I spent the first 30 years of my life working as a Professional Photographer, and then took a career break to have a family. Once the kids started to grow up a bit, I realised I needed a job that was flexible and worked around them, as well as wanting to be around for them at any point - should they need me. I'd often considered Driving Instruction - I love driving and I'd had experience in the past in a training capacity of Teaching people how to use computers - so with these 2 skills combined, Driving Instruction seemed to be the obvious choice. Learning to become a Driving Instructor was a steep learning curve - but a very rewarding one. All those weeks I spent getting up early before work to go and train, (I did the training alongside my part time job), was well worth the effort and eventually after about a year, I qualified as an ADI, which was an awesome day and a big relief to get that under my belt! So thats a snap shot of my story. I wanted to create this Blog, because I remember back in the day when I was trying to find out information about becoming an ADI, and more importantly, if Id have found some information about running a Driving School (Needle in a Haystack comes to mind), it would have been worth its weight in gold. 12 years down the line of working in the industry and running my own school, I've gradually evolved the business into a smooth running machine (excuse the pun), which runs like clockwork - thanks to all the systems I have in place, which make the day to day background stuff run smoothly, and allows me to concentrate on Teaching my Students to become Safe Drivers for Life. So, throughout this Blog, Im going to share my knowledge with you which I hope will be useful to you, in your journey of making a happy successful career as a Driving Instructor.
