Fatuma Golo Huka’s Journey Fatuma Golo Huka was born in Marsabit and raised in Karagita, Naivasha. Her life took a painful turn when she lost her mother just before turning twelve. With her father constantly away at work and unaware of what was happening at home, Fatuma endured verbal abuse from her stepmother, leaving her emotionally vulnerable and isolated. At a very young age, she was married off to an older man. They lived together and later had a child. However, instead of offering her stability, he introduced Fatuma to criminal activities, including theft and deception. She was taught how to con people and became entangled in his illegal dealings, which included using counterfeit money. One day, the police raided their home and arrested him. Fatuma managed to escape, even as officers fired shots at her. When she reached out to her child’s father for help, he refused to support her and took custody of their child, leaving her alone and desperate. While fleeing, she was picked up by a trailer driver who demanded sexual favors in exchange for help. After exploiting her, he abandoned her in Salgaa with nothing. Fatuma was left to sleep on the streets, struggling to survive. In her search for work, she met a woman who was a pastor. Fatuma felt hopeful, believing she had finally found someone who would help her genuinely. However, she was shocked to discover that the pastor had ulterior motives. One day, the pastor invited Fatuma into her bedroom and played videos of women engaging in intimate acts. Fatuma was disturbed when she was asked to imitate what she saw. Driven by desperation and lacking support, Fatuma complied. The pastor even taught her to dress in men’s clothing, including undergarments. To this day, the church still operates in Nakuru. Fatuma now longs to overcome the feelings she developed during that time and hopes to live a life she considers normal. Most of all, she dreams of reuniting with her child and rebuilding her life. Her story is a powerful reminder that not everything that glitters is gold. A person she trusted to guide her spiritually led her down a path she deeply regrets. Fatuma’s journey is one of survival, resilience, and the hope for healing.
