Get your brand new ZX Spectrum hardware at: http://zxspectrum.shop/ ! Made this video so you can hear the differences between an original AY-3-8912 and a AY-3-8910 clone. The -8910's are very cheap to obtain, about 1/7 of the price of a AY-3-8912 chip, but it turns out these -8910 chips are not original ones, but some kind of clone. These could be remarked chips: original used or unused chips from manufacturers back in the 1980's that were able to produce their own version of the AY-3-8910, but actually have another brand or model number. 'Remarked' means the top layer of the chip is renewed: 'blacktopped' and put a new silk screen on, which these obviously have. But I haven't been able to find what the original model of the chip is. Anyway, they DO sound ok, but just different. I personally prefer completely original sounding AY soundchips for my purposes, but since I offer these ZX Spectrum add-on sound cards to customers, I want to be able to offer the much cheaper AY-3-8910 variant next to the AY-3-8912 version.
