📍 Join us for a high quality and relaxing walk through the beautiful surroundings of the former Shrewsbury & Newport Canal, located in the town of Newport in Shropshire, England. Shot in 4K at 60fps, this immersive walk showcases the canal and waterway in all of its glory. Today, the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal is a gorgeous walkway that is enjoyed by local residents and visitors to the Shropshire town of Newport. Opened to traffic in 1835, the formal canal was designed by the famous Scottish Civil Engineer, Thomas Telford. This section of the canal was part of the eastern route which connected the cities of Birmingham (West Midlands) and Liverpool (Merseyside). Many regard the canal to be one of Thomas Telford's finest achievements. However, he was not able to see the completion or opening of the waterway as Thomas died on 2nd September 1834 at the age of 77. With the rise of the railways during the Victorian period, the canals were becoming more obsolete. As a result, the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal didn't open for very long, as it began to close in stages during the early 20th century. Thankfully, a portion of this route still exists today in the town of Newport which was from lock numbers 18 (Meretown Lock) to 22 (Polly's Lock). Not only will we be walking along the entire route, but the canal is also home to many forms of wildlife which we will be seeing during the video.
