Exploring the Medieval Castle of Montemor-o-novo + Monfurado

Welcome to my first episode of Portuguese Medieval Castles. In this episode, I am going to show +800 years old castle called "Castelo de Montemor-o-Novo". This castle is big but it's very destroyed mostly due to the earthquake of 1755, best known as the Lisbon earthquake, but also due to a lot of wars like the Peninsula War, Portugueses Civil War, etc... This castle was abandoned for a few years but it's now being restored and open to the public. And to finish the video, my father and I did a little travel to an abandoned abbey called "Convento de Monfurado". This abandoned convent was build in the XIII century and it held hundreds of monks. This convent is in a major state of decay with most roofs destroyed and vegetation growing everywhere. Nature is fully taking over this historical monument.
