Dolapdere, gypsy district in Istanbul, is the home of clarinet virtuoso Cüneyt Sepetçi and his orchestra which consists of some of Istanbul’s greatest musicians. It’s no surprise they have been performing in Europe’s most valuable clubs as well as Roskylde Festival. Playing the clarinet has been a traditional career in his family for generations. The nomadic past of his family can explain Cüneyt’s musical eclecticism and the many components of his repertoire. Cüneyt and his orchestra specialize in a modern take of classical Turkish gypsy music, as well as folk songs from Albania, Macedonia, Spain, and elsewhere, that they have adapted to their own inimitable style. Sepetçi playfully bends musical notes with a breathtaking virtuosity, which gives the audience an experience of ecstasy and insanity. In this special performance, as part of Sound Ports Festival, Sepetci will host, along with his orchestra, many local guests, and will turn this night into a psychedelic- groovy- gypsy- mediterranean party in the surprising and intimate back room of the Rothschild 12.
