HAPPY FRIDAY! Please leave a comment if you're in agreement that Sergeant Preston did an outstanding job! On the above date and time, I (SGT J Preston) was patrolling Northbound on I-530 near mile marker 23. A white passenger car passed me in the left lane. As it drove by, I noticed that the driver increased their speed due to the distance that was created between us. I continued to observe the vehicle until it was approximately two hundred yards away. I activated my radar and obtained a speed of 122 mph in a 75 mph zone, which I locked into my display. I then attempted to use a stealth approach to get closer before activating my emergency equipment due to the large distance between us, but the vehicle continued to create a bigger gap due to its speed. I then activated my radar a second time and obtained a speed of 128 mph in a 75 mph zone. As we approached the Jefferson/Grant County line, I activated my emergency equipment and advised Troop E dispatch that I was in pursuit and that I would be switching to Troop A dispatch due to the current location of the pursuit. The driver then began to weave in and out of traffic, moving back and forth between the right lane and the left lane, then onto the left shoulder to pass the vehicles traveling in the left lane, as I attempted to close the distance between our vehicles. The pursuit continued north before the driver (Mr. Trevon Honorable) moved into the right lane and rapidly applied his brakes, as I got within two car lengths of his vehicle. He then pulled onto the right shoulder just south of exit ramp 12 and stopped. I then conducted a felony stop on the vehicle, which was occupied by three occupants. I had each occupant step out of the vehicle one at a time, then walk to the rear of their car, where they were instructed to kneel on the ground and interlock their hands behind their heads. They all complied with my instructions. Trooper (TRP.) R. Zamora then arrived and assisted with the arrest. All occupants were then handcuffed and taken into custody without further incident. The driver and rear passenger were placed in my unit, and the front passenger was placed in TRP. Zamora's unit. We then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle based on the smell of burnt marijuana. Several bags of cigarillos (empty and new) and loose tobacco leaves were found in the front passenger area inside two paper bags. Several small flakes of marijuana were also found on the center console. The search did not reveal any additional contraband. I then returned to my unit and read Mr. Honorable his Miranda Rights, which he stated that he understood. He also agreed to answer questions without the presence of a lawyer. I then asked him why he fled after passing me near mile marker 23. He stated that "He knew he was driving fast, but not at 122 mph”. He also stated that he was just vibing out while driving. Mr. Honorable was then placed under arrest and transported to the W.C. "Dub" Brassell Adult Detention Center (DBDC). The other two occupants (Ms. Neveah Dezaray-lashay Love and Mr. Daveon Christian Bowman were released without charges. Mr. Honorable was booked into DBDC on the following charges: Citation Number: 000A3490015 (MISD), Case Number: 202519884ASP (FELONY). Fleeing- Vehicle or Conveyance - Substantial Danger of Death 5-54-125 (d)(3) 2023 / MISD: Driving On Suspended License 27-16-303, Reckless Driving - 1ST 27-50-308 (b)(1)(B), Speeding - More Than 15 MPH Over Limit 27-50-302 (7).
