History of Dutch Cinema - Holland Wood Dutch Cinema Goes Downhill (3/5) Moments from 5 Dutch movies in the years 1994 - 1995 1. Based on the book by children's author Mieke van Hooft, which appeared in 1989 and received praise. In 1990 the book was awarded the Prize of the Dutch Children in the age group 10-12 years. It was also translated into German (Der Taschendieb) and French (Le voleur de sacs), where it was awarded Le Grand Prix Européen de Roman pour Enfants (1992). 2. The film was intended as a farewell to Bob and Annie, two cameos from his television program. But from 2003 these characters surfaced again regularly in his shows. 3. The director is granddaughter of former world chess champion (1935 to 1937) Max Euwe 4. During the finishing credits, the film itself is suggested to be sold on a flea-market as "re-usable" videotape (the film is shot on video, supposedly the handy-cam of one of the main characters). 5. The film won the 1996 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and received generally positive reviews
