You may have wondered if there are still companies out there in this day and age that manufacture new typewriters. This thought had recently crossed my mind, so I decided to investigate. You may be surprised by the answer! I certainly grew up in a time when typewriters were everywhere. In schools, in offices, in homes, everywhere. They were extremely ubiquitous, and I used them on a very frequent basis. I even took a typing class in high school! I was actually still using typewriters right up until the early 2000's. Of course, like many people, I eventually got a personal computer, then a laptop, so I no longer needed to use my old typewriter. There are many folks out there these days who still prefer the tactile experience of using a vintage typewriter. Many writers feel that they are less distracted on a typewriter, and because it is very unplugged, they can focus more on their writing. As with many things from the past, items from days gone by often experience a resurgence. Younger folks who were too young to experience them the first time are now happy to rediscover certain items on the second hand market. It is the same with film photography, which is still alive and thriving. Even many folks under the age of 30 have discovered the joys of film photography. What do you think? Are you into typewriters? Do you collect them? Do you still use them? Do you think there are advantages to using an old typewriter? Feel free to leave a comment! On this channel I post videos relating to retro and vintage technology. Things like cassettes, CDs, old cameras, laser disc, radios, TVs, DVDs, vinyl, VCRs, home recording gear, microphones, mixers, synthesizers, drum machines, video games, and so much more.
