John Payne played Vint Bonner, a traveling cowboy who lived in the years after the American Civil War. Bonner is a talented gunfighter who believes in resolving conflicts peacefully wherever possible. He is smart, friendly, and cares about the community. The half-hour black-and-white show had 78 episodes, including the pilot episode in which the character played by John Payne is named Britt Poinsett. This is the same name as James Stewart's character in the 1953–54 old-time radio series The Six Shooter, which was the basis for The Restless Gun television series.
