"KOCMOC UNLEASHED" (Extreme Demon) by cherryteam | Geometry Dash 2.2

It's been about 2 years since I showcased "KOCMOC" on the channel, and I mentioned in my description that it was probably my favorite project by cherryteam. The reason was simply that I'm a big sucker for space theming, which is something that level executed really nicely to me. Of course, that was only a review on the visuals without considering the gameplay, difficulty, and/or performance, as it's way too hard for me to play through. Now, I haven't paid much attention the backstory of "KOCMOC UNLEASHED", and I also just learnt from a quick search that there was some controversy around it. From what I gathered, this is a decorated version of an earlier, harder version of the layout. That explains the similarities in the music and gameplay, with some in the visuals too. Since this is aiming to be a new top 1 Extreme Demon, the visuals are what we're here to review. Personally, I find this to be another really cool looking level by cherryteam, while also being distinctive enough from the original. This is largely thanks to the change to a grayscale color scheme, but also major differences in the designs, backgrounds, and effects. The color scheme is particularly interesting to me, as I haven't seen many grayscale levels in recent times. If I heard someone suggest a full level with this color scheme, I'd be worried about it feeling too boring, but I'd say these decorators made it very engaging despite that. This is thanks to many great block designs and effects that do a good job of synchronizing to the music. It can feel a bit overwhelming in that sense at times, though, especially due to the shader usage at the drop, so I fully understand why it may not be everyone's cup of tea. All in all, I think this is yet another sick cherryteam megacollab visually. I don't think there's much of a problem with them doing another decorated version of a similar layout when it looks this different, which I'm sure took the team a lot of time to create; I can only imagine how long it took each of these creators to keep up this level of detail with crazy effects synchronized to the song on top. It does make sense to be a bit tired of the repeated theming, though, despite the visual changes, but I'm sure we'll be seeing many more cherryteam megacollabs with unique themes in the future. All in all, I could see this getting above an Epic rating when it gets verified and released, if there are no major performance issues.
