(18 Feb 1996) Serbo-Croat/Nat Hundreds of Serbs have been fleeing from Sarajevo suburbs due to be ceded to the Muslim-led Bosnian government. The organised exodus reflects how little faith the Serbs have in the fragile peace accord. Sarajevo's suburb of Hadzici. At the start of the Bosnian war Muslims living here were expelled by Serb nationalists. Now the Serbs themselves are going. Serb-held districts of Sarajevo must be transferred to the Muslim-led Bosnian government by March 19. A new timetable for gradual transfer of those five areas - beginning next Saturday - was presented to Serb leaders Friday, apparently triggering the weekend departures. These people were leaving in buses organised by the mayor of Hadzici. SOUNDBITE: (Serbo-Croat) "The Bosnians asked us to stay but when they take over they will throw us out." SUPER CAPTION: Serb woman leaving Hadzici The road out of Sarajevo over Mount Trebevic was clogged with traffic as Serbs fled their homes in Serb-controlled areas of the city. The Serbs view Bosnian government guarantees for their security with skepticism. SOUNDBITE: (Serbo-Croat) "I thank the Bosnians for their promises of security but I don't want to live or die under their authority." SUPER CAPTION: Bosnian Serb There was anger at the international community for brokering a peace deal which Serbs feel has forced them from their homes. SOUNDBITE: (Serbo-Croat) "Life is impossible under the Muslims. If they are serious about the Dayton agreement, Clinton should live in Sarajevo - we certainly won't." SUPER CAPTION: Bosnian Serb The Serbs fear retaliation for nearly four years of siege and bombardment of government-held areas of Sarajevo.
