INSTAGRAM SAFETY FEATURES Instagram has announced it's introducing a bunch of new safety features to better protect teenagers who use it. The biggest change is that Instagram says it'll be banning adults from direct messaging teenagers who they don't follow. They say it's all about keeping you guys safe from strangers online. Instagram's already started encouraging younger users to make their profile private when they sign up. It also says it'll soon start sending out safety prompts to remind teens to be cautious about who they interact with, and not to feel pressured to respond to direct messages from adults, even if they follow them already. It's not the first time we've seen these kinds of changes from big companies. Earlier this year, TikTok strengthened its privacy settings for teens, too. STRANDED WALRUS If you've ever woken up a little confused about where you are, you'll almost certainly relate to this walrus. Walkers on a beach in Ireland found it washed up shore. Thousands of kilometres from its actual home in the arctic circle. Experts reckon it probably fell asleep on an iceberg which melted off the Greenland shelf, and it drifted all the way to Ireland. ST PATRICK'S DAY It all started with this guy, St. Patrick! Except that wasn't his name, it was actually Maewyn Succat. When he was 16 Maewyn was kidnapped, and brought to Ireland as a slave, but later escaped back to Britain. Here, he converted to Christianity and studied to become a priest, where he picked up a handy new name. With a new religion and a nifty name, Patrick returned to Ireland as a missionary. Over the years, Irish people have taken the celebrations far and wide. It often involves big parades, and lots and lots of green. And some cities really commit, like in Chicago, where they dyed the entire river! Now that is impressive, POWER LIFTER PULLS PLANE Planes lug around humans all the time, but a human lugging a plane? That's impressive. This powerlifter from Crimea managed to pull this 31.5 tonne military aircraft a little over a meter, using nothing but his own strength. Oh and some rope and a ladder. PET GEESE Training dogs to behave themselves while walking off their leash is impressive. But training geese? Well, This man in Russia has trained them to stop, sit and fly on command. His pet geese walk with him through town every day, stopping to say hello to friends, and fans. GOATS ON A ROOF And finally, something that's impressive in pretty much every way: goats on a roof. Local firefighters in Colombia were called in to help remove them, which they did by simply pointing them in the right direction. If you're wondering how on earth they managed to get up on the roof, don't worry, we are, too. __________________________________________ For the past 50 years, Behind the News has been helping to break down current issues and events for young people all around the world.
