Luka and the Lakers brought back showtime last night. The Knicks seeked revenge against the Bulls. And Wembanyama showed signs of being a human after all. We got all the thrilling action from Sunday night right here in this video, so let’s get into it. The Lakers opened the game against Miami with a bang! Everything was going their way! And the Heat defense was definitely not ready for this. A wrap-around bullet pass between 4 defenders to Rui in the corner for the splash. That’s Luka Magic for ya’ll. And the Lakers magical run continued with Jaxson Hayes in the center of it all. Wow! This was Jaxson’s 1st triple since 2023 when he was with the Pelicans. However, Bam didn’t like that at all, so he took his rage out on the Lakers rim. Oooh that was nasty! But Hayes made sure to return the favor immediately. AR lobs it up and Hayes slams it down for his 11th point in 7 minutes of action. Except for Luka, who was struggling with his long-range shot in the 1st quarter, everyone else was rolling! Bronny James flies for the alleyoop jam and the entire arena erupts along with his father of course. But from that point on, it was all about the white boy band. Luka, Austin and the new guy - Jake Laravia. With 25 points combined in the 2nd quarter, they built an 18 point lead. LA was in control throughout most of the game, and Luka even had some words for Miami’s bench after he left Adebayo in the dust. Buuut the Heat withstood all of that, and managed to connect on a 10-0 run at the end of the 3rd quarter and got as close as 2 points at the start of the 4th. Regardless, the Lakeshow boys were too deep in their bag to let this game slip away. Marcus Smart with a big timely triple to bump the lead to 7, and a couple possessions later, Austin Reaves showcased his handles, and nearly took himself out. That was sloppy, but luckily he made the most of it. And on the next play - Showtime! Jake Laravia was phenomenal in this game, 25 points, 8 boards and 4 steals on 77% efficiency. And speaking of 77, he wasn’t too shabby either. Despite missing 10 of his 11 - 3’s on the night, Doncic made the difference with his 83rd career triple double of 29, 11 and 10. And for the dagger, we have stone cold Reaves. AR got accustomed to taking the big shots for LA! Another solid performance for him as well, with 26 points and 11 dimes to round up the 5th win for the purple and gold in their first 7 games of the season. And I couldn’t say the same for my Knicks who lost their previous matchup against the Bulls and fell to 2-3, but last night they had a revenge shot at home, so… Jalen Brunson exploded for 19 points in the 1st quarter, building a double digit lead for New York. However, all of it vanished in a split second once Giddey heated up. Josh Giddey is playing the best basketball of his career. From 14.5 points, 8 boards and 7 assists last year, to 22, 9 and 8 in his first 6 games so far. Heck, he racked up 9 assists in 15 minutes of action. With Brunson on the bench, Chicago stormed back and even took the lead, but opposite to last season, now we have some reliable scoring options in the 2nd unit as well. JC with 2 - 3’s and an assist for McBride put the Knicks back up by 6 in just 60 seconds. He’s electric! Clarkson had 15 points in 17 minutes off the bench. That’s exactly what we were missing these couple of years. Nevertheless, the Bulls hung around in this game till the early minutes of the 3rd quarter, but then, the Knicks made it rain from downtown. New York went on a 51 to 31 stretch in 15 minutes of action, blowing the game way out of reach. KAT with 20, 15 and 5, along with Brunson who counted up to 31 points, were the ones who did the most damage to Chicago’s defense. Surprisingly, this was the 1st loss for the Bulls this season, and the Knicks are back to square one. Wemby and the Spurs entered the game against Phoenix also undefeated, but quickly learned that every dream has its end. The Suns were sizzling hot, shooting 73% from downtown in the 1st half, building an 18 point lead before going to the break. On the contrary, Victor was struggling, hitting only 1 of his 5 shot attempts. And his struggles only got worse in the 2nd half, because… Phoenix was physical with Wemby all game long, as they didn’t let him get in his groove at all. They surrounded him with multiple bodies and forced him to shoot from outside. That resulted in a humbling 9 points, 9 boards and 6 turnovers on 28% from the field. For the 1st time this season, he actually looked mortal, and the Spurs suffered an ugly 1st defeat. And speaking of that, the situation with Ja Morant in Memphis for sure ain’t pretty. The team suspended him for the game against the Raptors which they lost convincingly. And rumors are starting to heat up that he may be the next superstar to get traded. In his latest guest appearance, Shams said that we need to watch out for Trae Young as well.
