Naypyidaw (Nay Pyi Taw) was declared the new capital of Myanmar in 2005. It's more than six times the size of New York City but there's only 1 million people living there. There's multiple theories why the previous dictator decided to use 4 billion dollars to build the new capital. Official explanation was that the previous capital, Yangon, was getting too crowded. But it's also been suggested that the project was only a vanity project of the previous dictator. Thousands of civil servants were forced to move there, threatened with prison sentences if they refused. Still after two decades, Naypyidaw lacks the amount of citizens it was built for. Thus the enormous highways are eerily quiet with barely any cars in sight. Some of the highways boast a massive amount of 20 lanes. Due to lack of people, Naypyitaw is often called the biggest ghost town in the world. As Naypyitaw was built in the middle of nowhere, there isn't really historical buildings to see. So is Naypyidaw worth visiting? What there is to do in Naypyitaw? Join me on an adventure in war-torn Myanmar as I'm exploring the weirdest city in the world. Music: TurboSol [Totem] / @95turbosol
