Ntaba Maria -- Peace Day Concert 2016

The Village Scribe Association supports several projects that involve computers and the Internet for educational and communication purposes to uplift communities in Rhini-Grahamstown and in the rural Eastern Cape. One of the most important projects of awarenet is the annual Peace Day Concert. To celebrate International Peace Day organise a concert involving learners from local schools who perform hip-hop songs with lyrics and melodies composed by themselves. This is done in collaboration with Corinne Cooper from the Rhodes music department and Sonic Art Studio. Our intention is to animate young people in the Grahamstown schools to do creative, fun work, record this digitally and use our platform awarenet to spread this work around the world. This will open the eyes of the learners to the power of reading and writing and collaborative work. In this video you see the group from CM Vellem performing the song they wrote during the awarenet Peace and Music project 2016.
