Florence Beatrice Price (1887-1953) was the first Black woman to have a symphonic composition performed by a major American symphony orchestra when the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performed her Symphony in E Minor in 1933. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and received degrees in piano and organ at the New England Conservatory in Boston in 1906. In 2018, she was inducted into the Arkansas Women's Hall of Fame and honored by the Arkansas State Music Teachers Association, the same organization that had denied her membership due to her race when she was living there.
