Bitola, known during the Ottoman Empire as Manastır, is one of the oldest cities in North Macedonia. It was founded as Heraclea Lyncestis in the middle of the 4th century BC by Philip II of Macedon. We befriended a cute stray dog and named him Phil after Phillip of Macedon. Then we made our way to Heraclea Lyncestis, which is one of the main tourist attractions in Bitola. Heraclea Lyncestis was an ancient Greek city in Macedon, ruled later by the Romans. Its ruins are situated in the present-day town of Bitola, North Macedonia.
