Hey guys, today I wanted to touch on a little bit of a more heavy subject. I'm giving you my opinions on the Black Lives Matter Movement, talking about how it relates to me as a black mom raising black children, and touching on what role I plan to assume moving forward. As promised, here are a couple of resources that you can use to learn about your rights when dealing with police, and in addition I recommend googling "what are my rights when dealing with police (add your state)". This will get you even more specific answers and usually pull up more info about what your rights are if you happen to be arrested, among other scenarios. These specific resources are for Maryland because that's where I live, but I wanted to provide examples of what you might find in your search. Your Rights During Police Encounters: https://www.aclu-md.org/en/know-your-... WHAT TO DO AND HOW TO ACT IF YOU’VE BEEN PULLED OVER: https://www.enlawyers.com/maryland-la... Driver's Rights Card (MD): http://balassalaw.com/userFiles/8/c/9... NAACP What To Do If You're Stopped By Police: https://www.naacp.org/wp-content/uplo... Here are some other things that you can do today: 1. Search for the Police Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct in your county and city. 2. Figure out who is tasked with enforcing the Code of Ethics that police are supposed to be bound to. (This will usually be an elected official.) 3. Familiarize yourself with your local city and state officials and make sure that you know enough about them to make an informed decision to either keep them in office or vote them out during the next election. Meaningful Police Reform is going to happen most immediately at the local level so knowing your local officials and understanding not only the roles they play, but where they stand on the issues that are important to you is going to be invaluable. More info and videos to come on this and similar topics. Stay tuned...
