The Tiki Village at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta

Despite being so far away from The Philippines, a small piece of its craft and culture can be found at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Malta. Indeed, our Tiki outlets strongly reflect these Filipino crafts and service. The Tiki Bar and restaurants are a great example of the fusion between the Filipino and Maltese cultures, as apart from displaying hand-crafted Tiki statues, wooden figurines, and bamboo furniture, the venue also proudly features a traditional Maltese fishing boat, known as the ‘luzzu’. The Tiki Village is the latest addition to our Tiki outlets. This is comprised of 10 ‘Villas’, a bar and additional seating. The hotel owners and their representatives made several trips from Hong Kong to Manila, then travelling South to Tayabas in the Quezon Province of The Philippines, in the process of purchasing the materials used to construct the Village. All the items purchased have been hand-crafted by Filipino carpenters using indigenous skills and products, including bamboo and Nipa.
