Various, wounded man lying in bed STORYLINE: Firefights erupted in a small town just south of Baqouba on Monday after police reinforcements entered the area. Several Iraqi police pick-up trucks could be seen on a road in the town of Buhriz as insurgents looted weapons from the vehicles then destroyed the vehicles with RPGs. There was no sign of the Iraqi police near the vehicles that were looted and destroyed. On Sunday US forces from the Army's First Infantry Division battled insurgents in the northern Iraqi city of Beiji. Witnesses said at least six people were killed in the clashes, and a further twenty wounded. Beiji, which is just north of Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit, was blanketed by thick black smoke as small arms fire and explosions echoed through the streets. According to the US military, the clashes followed an attack in Beiji against US soldiers, who responded with tank rounds and Hellfire missiles.
