Today's video is a look at the levels of winter protection and winter care tips I use for my Dicksonia antartica tree ferns here in my North Lincolnshire jungle garden. I look at the part of the plant that are important to protect against frost, how these amazing and graceful ferns are actually a lot tougher than you might expect plus why I wouldn't recommend chopping all the fronds off and wrapping the whole plant all winter. I also go through using straw and fleece to protect a younger plant plus how I'd care for a potted tree fern. 0:00 Intro 2:22 Which parts of tree ferns require protection? 4:22 Should you chop off tree fern fronds before winter? 5:29 Should you wrap a tree fern all winter? 6:22 Do tree ferns need winter protection in the UK? 7:22 Using microclimates to protect from frost 8:59 Protecting a tree fern crown with leaves 10:08 Using straw for tree fern winter protection 11:24 Using a ball of fleece to protect a tree fern crown 12:52 Protecting Dicksonia antartica against hard frosts and cold 14:20 Wrapping a tree fern against deeper cold 15:49 Watering tree ferns in dry winter weather 17:25 Winter care for young Dicksonia Antartica tree fern 18:42 Protecting tree ferns in pots If you've enjoyed my content and would like to say thanks for the price of a coffee then please head over to my Ko-fi, any kind donations would be appreciated and put towards creating more exciting content: https://ko-fi.com/georgesjunglegarden Thanks, George
