Battling with Invisible Disabilities The quiet girl in your class who's always getting bullied because she's fat, might be starving herself due to an eating disorder. Maybe she has lost her self esteem and maybe she's having suicidal thoughts. Have you ever judged people because of their appearance? It is high time you stopped doing so because that boy you just punched hard might be having a rough time at home due to his parents' divorce. Shehla Iftekhar is an advocate for the rights of people with physical and mental health disabilities. From counseling US War Veterans to the Rikers inmates at Brooklyn, Shehla has an extensive array of experience in Rehab Counseling. She has also worked at an Outpatient Rehab Clinic where dangerous gang members mandated by the court came for treatment. Her work has earned her several distinguished human right advocacy awards at the New York state level and beyond. In the state of New York, Shehla Iftekhar is an advocate for the rights of people with financial hardships, mental health issues, and physical disabilities. She stands at the forefront of advocacy to shape the public image of people with physical or mental health disabilities. She is a staunch supporter of “No one is 100% disabled”. Her work has earned her several distinguished human rights advocacy awards at the New York State level and beyond. From counseling US War Veterans to the Rikers inmates at Brooklyn, Shehla has an extensive array of experience in Rehab Counseling. She has also worked at an Outpatient Rehab Clinic where dangerous gang members mandated by the court came for treatment. Shehla Iftekhar is currently working as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the US Federal Government at the Wilkes Barre Veterans Affairs Hospital in Pennsylvania.
