Written and produced by Hans Bouwens. This German pressing of the George Baker Selection’s instrumental version of “Santa Lucia By Night” (released in Holland on the CNR label) came a full 14 years after he had graced the US Hot-100 with “Little Green Bag” in 1969 on the Colossus label. George was born in Holland and his real name was Hans Bouwens, the name seen on the label credits of his many recordings. He formed the Selection in 1969 and by 1975, they had scored three more US hits, including the #25 charting, “Paloma Blanca” in 1975. That disc also went to #1 in George’s native Holland, where he has had some three dozen hit singles both with the Selection and as a solo artist. Same story on the album front, with around two dozen hit albums, culminating with “The Golden Years Of Dutch Pop Music” in 2016. “Santa Lucia By Night” was the lead track off the Selection’s “Santa Lucia By Night” album. The single peaked at #7 on the Dutch charts, enjoying a 13 week stay.
