Beloved actor and comedian John Candy brought laughter and heart to millions through classics like 'Uncle Buck', 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' and 'Home Alone'. Yet behind the humor was a reality many people can relate to — being judged and defined by body size instead of talent and character. In this episode of Fresh Perspectives, OAC’s James Zervios is joined by community members Jess Perreca, Sarah Bramblette and Ian Patton to discuss how weight bias continues to shape the way society views people with obesity. Together they explore what John Candy’s story reveals about how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go in recognizing obesity as a chronic disease rather than a personal failing. The panel shares personal experiences, examples of bias in healthcare and media and the growing movement to change the narrative through awareness, compassion and advocacy.
