History and modernity of the shaolin temple is a complicate subject with many layers. The shaolin temple is known by all the martial artists and Chinese movie lovers. It is known as the place of spiritual life and Buddhist principals, but what makes it unique is the abundance of martial arts and weapon forms which went along with prayers and meditation. But, What happened to the Shaolin temple? how is it nowadays? Is Modern Shaolin Temple Real? Shaolin temple training in china has become really popular, but at a great cost to authenticity. Modern Shaolin however is a very different place, most of people who had a chance to visit is keep asking questions such as "is modern shaolin temple a theme park?", or "are Chinese martial arts legit?". Currently, foreign students in china while attending Kungfu training in shaolin temple have a really distorted perception behind the original purpose of such exercises. And for a good reason, since indeed the modern shaolin monks and their temple are acting more as an extension of Chinese Soft power, rather than what they were supposed to be originally. Nowadays you can even study shaolin taijiquan, which is completely unorthodox, but apparently very profitable. The traditional aspects such as, kung fu conditioning exercises, are often ignored for a softer dance like training, with almost full emphasis on shaolin taolu. The history of martial arts is a confusing topic, and it gets even more so when we have to take into the account all the loss of valuable documents and current propaganda. Currently, Shaolin temple and Buddhism, have almost nothing in common, since there is a very small number of actual Buddhist monks on the temple grounds. Instead we can meet a lot of Shaolin performance monks/actors. Until it remains an important aspect of Chinese soft power, it is rather unlikely that the Monastery would be free to carry out its original purpose. #Shaolin #ShaolinTemple
