On 16 September 1940, the 45th Infantry Division, under Major General William S. Key, was federalized from state control. Its men immediately began basic combat training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In August 1941, the 45th Infantry Division took part in the Louisiana Maneuvers, the largest peacetime exercises in U.S. military history. The division was assigned to VIII Corps with the 2nd Infantry Division and the 36th Infantry Division, camped near Pitkin, Louisiana. He has been there a total of 36 years having started his tenure as a volunteer 1987. Upon retirement of the previous curator, he was awarded the position of full time curator, stepping into that roll September 1st 2023. His is an avid collector of WW2 militaria and an amateur historian, specializing in personal histories of the men of the 45th. You might say he is living his dream of preserving the memory of those men and their heroic actions in ww2 and the Korean war.
