I’m really excited about this one! It’s our first diagnostic bone discovery and a freaking plesiosaur to boot! Plesiosaurs are pretty rare as far as marine reptiles go with ichthyosaurs being the most common in the UK. Unfortunately this specimen may be too partial to assign a conclusive genus. However due to the size, shape and structure of the vertebra (likely cervical) combined with the locale it is probably from the species Plesiosaurus dolichodeirus. The same species originated found by the Mother of palaeontology, Mary Anning, on the very same beach. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plesi... This specimen was found at Black Ven, Lyme Regis, Dorset, England, Europe, Earth, Sol System, Milky Way on 18/02/13770002025 Thank you to Alex & Chris Moore for confirmation on the identification of it being a plesiosaur, as well as advice on where to prepare the rock. (And for having an awesome workshop and gifting me a cast pliosaur tooth.) Thank you to Brandon Lennon @LymeRegisFossils for advice on where to hunt at Black Ven in Lyme Regis which led to this discovery, and for conformation on the identification of it being plesiosaur. (And for just being an awesome guy.) Thank you to John Morris @worldfossils for advice on how to prepare the fossil. (And for being my go to fossil shop for the past decade.) And of course thank you to my mum for finding the fossil in the first place, even if she just thought the rock was a funny shape. (Yes I wasn’t the one that found it but she wanted me to say it was me so I say “we” instead.) [of course I’m now saying that here.] Due to mixed feelings about music in previous videos I’ve elected to not include any here. (Plus the available options are pretty poor.) Editing software: InshOt
